PSP Version 7-

Several people have asked me how I do my watermarks on images and how others are done so they can have one of their own for their images so I am writing this tutorial. I don't recall where I originally learned how to do them since I have been doing them from memory for awhile now so I don't know who to credit for the "technique". If you know who has one similar let me know so they can recieve the proper credit. :)

Open a new image

Open a new image with a transparent background. Make it any size you want but if you want to keep it for future use on all images then make it about 400 x 400 so that it can be easily resized to accomodate just about any size image. I used text with a circle or shape around it for mine, so grab your Shapes Tool, set your stroke color to black and your fill color to NULL, set the shape to whatever shape you want for around your text, vector, antialiased checked and a line width of fifteen .(Fig.wm01)

Draw out your shape then choose selections and select none. Now we are going to add the text to the image. Click the text tool in the tool palette. Choose a nice fat font, set your foreground and background colors both to Black. Type in the text you want for the watermark, I just used PSP Toybox and my web site addy underneath it, you can have your name of whatever you like on it. :) Merge all layers by choosing Layers, and then Merge all -Flatten. (Fig-wm02)

The first image shows after drawing the shape only, then the second image shows image with layers palette after both the text and the shape. (Fig-wm03 and Fig.-wm04))

Node edit the center of hat

Now
choose your magic wand tool, set the tolerance in the control paletter to a higher number, start at about 20 and you may need to play with that number to get all the white selected on the outside of your shape. Once you are happy with the selection and can see the marching ants (Fig.wm05) we need to invert the selection so that we have our new image for our watermark selected alone and not with the background. (Fig.wm06)

Add the rim to the hat

Now choose Edit and then Copy, you won't see any change but your watermark will now be copied on to your Windows Clipboard. Open the image you are wanting to watermark and then select Paste as New layer option.(Fig-wm07) You should now see your new watermark on top of your image but it don't look right huh? LOL Well go to Effects and then apply an Emboss to it, it's under Texture Effects. A little better but not quite huh?

In your layers palette you should now have your background layer being your image that you are wanting to watermark and a layer called layer 1 which is the new watermark image we made and pasted on to our photo and we applied the emboss filter too. Now all you have to do is go to the layers palette and change the blend mode on that new layer 1 to soft light. (Fig-wm08)

And there you have it ! Your new personal watermark for your image! There are other ways to do this if you don't like this way. I have a couple listed in my links section if you want to take a look at them and/or send me any that you like that I may not have listed on the page! Here is my image watermarked.
