Well glad to see ya made it ! Ready? We are almost done. I promise. Not
much longer of you being subjected to Bonesy torture. Now to do the arms,
starting with (your) right arm, for this one I went ahead and made a seperate
shape. I used the rounded rectangle with the same settings and colors
as we did for the shirt. Draw out the shape and then if it is not already
BEHIND the shirt layer then click, hold and drag it below.

|

For the left arm I added nodes to the triangle shape we made for the main
body. (Fig. 23) Don't worry about making them perfect right
now, get them as close as you can because once we are finished we will
come back and tweak all of the disproportioned areas. Now with the shapes
tool selected again choose black for both your foreground and background
colors, set the line width to 1, AA checked, created as vector checked.
Make sure that the retain style i s NOT checked. Choose the rounded rectangle
from the shapes and draw the poor boy some pants. lol (Fig.24) They
don't have to be very big, to me it always looked like he was wearing
a skirt. ROFL So you should have, under the body layer, the shirt which
started as the triangle shape, the right arm that was a rounded rectangle
and node edited in to shape. There should be the neck and the pants we
just made. (Fig.25)

|

Now choose the shape tool again and set your foreground color to black
and your background color to null. Select the diamond shape in your shapes
selections. This is what I used for the line across his shirt. The line
tool will work also if you would rather try that and play around with
the different lines. (Fig.26) Draw out diamonds across the
bottom of his shirt for that line thing he always has going on there.
(Fig.27) Once drawn, select each one with the vector selection
tool and node edit them to shape better in to the shirt. It would be impossible
to explain it all so you will have to just play around with the nodes,
I added a couple and shape the ends around to try and look more like they
blended in with the back of the shirt. (Fig.28)

Ok
the poor thing has no legs and feet so let's add a new VECTOR layer and
name it bottom or something to that effect. Set the foreground color to
black and the background color to the flesh tone again from the neck and
face. (Right click and choose it from the recent colors) Choose the rounded
rectangle from the shapes again and draw out a leg on the new vector layer,
then repeat and draw the other leg. (Fig.29) Name the legs
in your layers palette by right clicking and choosing rename. If the new
"Bottom Layer" is not under the main body in the layers palette
drag it there now. (Fig.30) Make them short stubbies since
we will be adding socks.
|
|

Choose the shapes tool again and this time set your foreground color to
a dark yellow and the fill color to almost the same color. Set the line
width to just 1, AA checked, create as vector checked, stay with the rounded
rectangle also. Draw on the bottom of the legs, an area that would be
a sock. A small shape for the left and then a small shape for the right
sock. (Fig.31) Then add some feet by choosing the shapes
tool again and then setting your foreground to a black and the background
to a dark brown, or something there abouts that would be a good color
for a shoe. (Fig.33) You will probably need to add some
nodes to the shoes and shape them a little better than what the actual
shape is so they look more realistic. Again, don't worry about getting
these perfect, we can and will most likely tweak them at the end of the
tutorial. At this point also, in order to get the legs, socks and feet
to appear correctly I had to rearrange my objects some in the layers palette.
(Fig. 32) Right click your objects in the layers palette and rename
them so that they are easily recogiznable to see, match mine in the screen
shot if you like.

|
Add
some shoelaces by choosing the shape tool and setting the foreground color
to black and the background color to null. I left my line width at one.
Choose the ellipse shape and draw some little circles like shoestrings
on the top of his shoes. (Fig.34) I know they are hard to
see in the screen shot here but they are there. If you want to see a full
size shot of the shoes to help you click
here. The link should open in new window so you won't lose your place
here. Next we need arms. Set the foreground color to black and the background
color again to the flesh tone as before (right click the color swatch
and choose it from the recent colors dialog box). Set the shape to rounded
rectangle, line width to 1, AA checked, create as vector checked, retain
style NOT checked. Draw out an arm shape on one side and then repeat for
the other side. (Fig.35) I know, I know he looks like a
dork still right now but we will tweak him later. If necessary rearrange
your layers in the layers palette to match mine so that the right arm
is behind the shirt and appears to be on the side . (Fig.36)
|
|

For the hands, you will have to go into node edit mode on the arms. Choose
the vector seletion tool and click one of the arms. Add some nodes on
the very bottom of the rectangle all the way across, then click every
other one and pull it out so they appear as pointy fingers. Repeat with
the other arm. At this point you again will have to node edit and play
with the curves of the fingers since we don't want straight points. My
screen shot is resized so you can hardly see them here like with the shoestrings
so if you want to see mine close up click here,
link will open in new window.

Here are the ones I have almost finished ! I am not happy with Sally though
so she will be awhile before I get her done ! Lucy is just about ready
and then there are more on the tutorials page
to try if you like !

For some more great toons, premade into shapes and tubes for your fun
and convinience visit Ron, over at Rons'
Toons ! His stuff is just the BEST ! He has been my inspiration, along
with a little (large) nudge (shove) from Nancy at Jasc! Thank YOU both
very much !! I didn't think I would like them but as it turns out I am
loving them! Can ya tell? LOL Now if I could just get as good as Ron !
