Recently
used files: I have mine set at 10 but you can set it
to whatever you like. See where this is displayed on the
canvas
HERE.
-
Use Tolerance%: When you paste as a transparent
selection, PSP adds it to the current image, defines it as a selection,
and then deselects all the pixels that match the current background
color. The "tolerance" value you enter says how closely
the background color must match the transparent color for it to
become transparent. 0 = no tolerance (only pixels with a
perfect match), and 100 being total tolerance (all pixels)
-
Do not ask: Checked PSP will ask you when you close
it if you want to empty the clipboard.
-
Force full window redraw: When selected PSP redraws the
information in the active window whenever you move objects in
the image.
-
Show splash screen: Gets annoying after awhile.
I got tired of it and killed it.
-
Disable pressure support for puck type: A puck-type pointing
device is used with a graphics tablet. Some of these devices have
the same pressure-sensitive feature as the graphics pens. When
you use the pen, you can vary the pressure you apply to the tablet
to control opacity, color, or line width. With a puck-type pointing
device, you use its buttons to control the pressure applied. Push
the button in more to apply greater pressure; ease up on it to
reduce the pressure. When you select the "Disable pressure support
for puck-type pointing devices" check box, the pressure-sensitive
feature is not available.*

Rulers: In
the drop down you have the option of pixels, inches and centimeters.
To me it makes sense to set to pixels since that is what you will
be working with most of the time in PSP. They can be displayed
in black and white or the toolbar colors which I have here on
the right. See black and white HERE.
-
Default Resolution: For web graphics and emails leave
this set at 72. This is the resolution that you will need
all to be for the web.
-
Grid: In the "Grid" panel, select the units of measurement
(pixels, inches, or centimeters) and the horizontal and vertical
grid spacing measured in the units. To change the color of the
grid lines, click inside the Line Color box to open the Color
dialog box. Right-click in the Line Color box to open the Recent
Colors dialog box.*
-
Guide:
In the "Guide" panel, select a default color for the guide lines.
To change the color of the lines, click inside the Line Color
box to open the Color dialog box. Right-click the box to open
the Recent Colors dialog box. *

Grid
Size: this is a personal thing here. I set mine
to medium. You have several choices so choose what is easiest
on YOUR eyes.
-
Grid Colors: Several to choose from again.
Avoid bright colors if you can so that it is not so hard on the
eyes while you are working.

Disable
or Enable ALL: By default, the check boxes on the Warnings
tab are selected, and PSP displays a warning message whenever
you are about to perform an operation that will result in lost
information or one that can’t be applied to the image in its current
state. For each type of message you prefer not to have Paint Shop
Pro display, clear its check box.
If you are an experienced user who understands the implications
of a command, you may prefer not to see the warning message each
time you choose the command. For example, if you make 12 screen
captures, save the five you want to keep, and then want to close
Paint Shop Pro, the program will display messages asking to save
each of the remaining seven images. To close the program without
seeing the messages, you would clear the "Warn on unsaved files
during Window Close All" check box.
You can also prevent a message from appearing in the future by
selecting the "Don’t warn about this anymore" check box the first
time Paint Shop Pro displays the message. If you then change your
mind and want to see the message, return to this tab and select
the appropriate check box.* See PSP HELP section for
specific on each option if you do not understand them.
