This has changes since 6 and I must say it is nice !  It makes things so much easier having this part of your files out of the General Preferences.  Here you control where PSP goes to look for various items including your temp files and the following:

  • Filters

  • Tubes

  • Gradients

  • Frames

  • Browsers

  • Brushes

  • Patterns

  • Textures

  • Shapes

  • Styled Lines

This is a nice change from 6.  With now have the capabilities to add additional paths to our file locations and numerous other things.  One thing I have always stressed is to keep the folders OUTside of PSP so that PSP doesn't have to load all the files and folders each time it is started.  When you get to the point that you have tons of filters, tubes, brushes etc. they can really start to weight down PSP.  The main one I will focus on now is the Plug-in Filters folder and help you to create a new folder on your puter for it if you do not know how to do this yet.  As I progress through the new features in PSP I will add information pertaining to the tubes, brushes etc with their appropriate "area" of coverage.  A lot of of this is new to me as well as you since there are so many changes so bare with me as we learn together.

Right click start, then choose EXPLORE
Step 1

To access them we go to FILE and then PREFERENCES and then FILE LOCATIONS, but we need somewhere to put them first, other than the defaults provided by PSP. Go to your START BUTTON and right click and choose the EXPLORE option.

Step 2

Windoze Explorer allows you to easily create foldersThe left side contains your folders and drive info in a tree.  The right side shows with the individual folders and files. In the tree, click on the drive you want to store your filters on, in my case it is C.  If it is not there already C should then be the viewable folder on the right as well.  Click the little + beside the drive to expand the entire file list if you want.  It should match the right side with the folders except in a tree format instead of the folders as seen on the right here.

Step 3

Right click anywhere on the RIGHT side of windows explorer and you should be presented with a dialog box as you see here.  Choose the NEW and then FOLDER option .  Name the file whatever you like, I call mine PSP Stuff.  LOL  Technical huh? LOL Once you have the folder then go over to the tree and click on the folder that you just created.

Step 4

Create extra folders to keep them organized. After clicking on the new folder you should then see the opened folder on the right but with nothing in it since we just made it.  Follow the same steps as above but right click WITHIN this folder and add a new one.  You can name them Filter1, 2, 3 or whatever.  I gave mine specific names for the filters I have currently, like Blade Pro, KPT, and Filter Factory.

Step 5

Now you have the folders ready and waiting all we have to do now is tell PSP where to find them so open PSP and choose the FILE, PREFERENCES and then the FILE LOCATIONS from the menu.  Click on the PLUG-IN FILTERS tab and you should be presented with the dialog box now.  Enter the paths of the files or choose BROWSE and browse to them on your puter so that they will show up here.

Questions?

Remember to open an image to test them .Step 6

Let's check and make sure they are there and working if you have filters already.  You will need to have some kind of open image in PSP to test them.  Just choose FILE and NEW and whatever is there just click OK.  Then go to EFFECTS and at the bottom you should see the PLUG-IN FILTERS like mine to the right here and then all your plug-in's. ( My list is cropped to save file size/load time)  Simple huh?
